New IATA Rules for Power Bank Carriage from January 1, 2026

Important Reminder: New Rules for Carrying Power Banks as of January 1, 2026

Starting from the beginning of 2026, updated international IATA requirements have come into force, strictly regulating the carriage of lithium batteries. To ensure your journey to vacation is smooth and without unpleasant surprises at security, please review the key rules.

Where to carry? In carry-on only! Power banks are strictly prohibited in checked baggage. If you leave a device in your suitcase, it will be removed during scanning, and your baggage may be delayed.

  • Storage location: Carry-on baggage only.

  • During flight: Keep your power bank under the seat or in the seatback pocket. It is forbidden to store them in overhead bins.

On-board Restrictions For fire safety reasons, strict bans on the use of external batteries in the cabin are in effect from 2026:

  • Charging any gadgets from a power bank during the flight is prohibited.

  • Charging the power bank itself from the aircraft's USB ports or power outlets is prohibited.

Check the Marking (Crucial!) Airport security officers in Kazakhstan are now required to check factory markings. If the capacity in Wh or mAh is not indicated on the case, the device will be confiscated.

How to know if your power bank is allowed?

  • Up to 100 Wh (approx. up to 27,000 mAh): Allowed without restrictions (in carry-on). The case should have a label like 100Wh or 20000mAh.

  • 100 – 160 Wh: Prior approval from the airline is required (24-48 hours in advance). No more than 2 units allowed.

  • Over 160 Wh: Carriage is completely prohibited.

Tip: If the marking is worn off, it is better to leave the power bank at home

Flight safety is our common priority!
